DAL KHICHDI RECIPE IN TAMIL / தால் கிச்சடி இப்படி காய்கறிகளோட அருமையா செஞ்சி பாருங்க / दाल खिचडी
INGREDIENTS: Rice – 1 cup (washed) Moong dal (yellow lentils) – ½ cup (washed) Water – 4 to 4.5 cups (adjust for consistency) Ghee or oil – 4 tbsp Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp Bay leaves - 2 Asafoetida (hing) – 1 tsp Turmeric powder – ½ tsp Salt – to taste Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tbsp Onion – 1 big size(chopped) Tomato – 2 medium size (chopped) (Vegetables of your choice(chopped) (Carrot, Beans, Green peas, Potato, etc) (You can add spinach, cauliflower, or any other veggies) PROCEDURE: Wash rice and dal together. Soak for 15–20 minutes if time allows. Chop all vegetables and keep ready. Heat ghee/oil in a pressure cooker or deep pan. Add cumin seeds and bay leaves and let them splutter. Add onions, saute for 2 minutes. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell goes off. The add chopped tomatoes. Cook until soft. Add all chopped vegetables. Stir well Add 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp garam masala, 1/2 tbsp Red Chilli powder and salt to taste. Pour 4.5 of cups of water. Add soaked dal and rice. Mix everything. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles on medium heat. When done, open lid and mix the boiled rice with a laddle and when it turns mushy, add 3-4 cups of water (warm or cold) to dilute the khichdi as per your consistency. Sprinkle some finely chopped coriander leaves and give a good mix. Switch of the stove when its done. Your Dal Khichdi is ready...! Serve hot with a dollop of ghee on top with pappad or pickles.
